Slim and
elegant, you streak
through the air trailing
endearments: my baby! my
sweetie! my jalapeño! You add bite,
make my heart burn, then you crank
up the volume, pound your fist, tell
me to watch my step, laugh your head
off when I trip, get indignant when
I complain, say you weren’t born
yesterday, leap like a cougar
onto my back with a cry of
Take that! The only deterrent
to your thwack and bang,
you asshole you pinprick
of amazement, is to call
your exclamatory bluff
return you to the
land. Watch out!
I’m going to
turn you
upside
down
hand-
cuff
you
to a
tree

introduce
you to the
death of bravado
rhetoric and
mortality
